From the outset the objective was to translate the sense of Old St Luke's to a new and modern interpretation.
The design concept revolves around focus on both the speaker and the central elements of sharing the bread, the wine and the preaching of the word.
The Windows are designed to reinforce that focus by concentrating light towards the dias, and flooring likewise reinforces the frontal focus. The lantern windows give general lighting tot he worshippers as well as focussing over the ventral font. The lantern itself is encircled by a corona. These were all individually handcrafted by Contech carpenters.
The structure uses natural wood, with natural wood flooring and ceiling. Throughout the building theer is a level of access for disabled users.
The entire back wall of the worship space can open up into the main entrance hall, increasing capacity of the church by up to 50% with further linkage possible through a second set of folding doors. Fully serviced offices, meeting areas and shildrens facilities are also incorporated.
The vicar of St Luke's the Rev. Andrew Lenox-Conygham said - "We are extremely pleased with the new church and expect it to become a centre for the community in the future".
Nigel Walker states - "The church is a very open design which makes it a great facility for the local community as well as a focal point for the Church's activities. We have a reputation for fine craftsmanship which shows in the development of St Luke's. The entire project team have enjoyed a friendly and co-operative relationship resulting in the successful completion of this project".
